The horseshoe-shaped windows are a clue to the former use of Smithy Farm and date from about 1800.

Thirsk Lodge                                                   SE 461 789

  Thirsk Lodge was the main gateway to the now                 demolished Thirkleby Hall. James Wyatt designed the hall   and probably the lodge in about 1780.

  The archway is identical to the gateway to Beningbrough   Hall at NEWTON-ON-OUSE, North Riding.
