SKIPTON, West Riding

Wilderness Woods Grotto

Picture
The Grotto in Wilderness Wood, on the bank of Waller Hill Beck, is in a very bad condition and there are hopes that it will be restored. The inspiration for the shell grotto may have been the one in the entrance to nearby Skipton Castle.

Other examples of shellwork are at:

A La Ronde, WITHYCOMBE RALEIGH, Devon
Shell House, TERRINGTON, North Riding
Shell House, Woburn, Bedfordshire
Shell Grotto, MARGATE, Kent
