WEST WITTON, North Riding
Belvedere SE 032 889

Temple Farm, across the road from the belvedere, gets its name from the nearby Knights Templar Chapel and does not refer to the summerhouse, also known as The Temple, which is in a former pleasure garden.
The belvedere was built for the cost of £800 in 1792 and designed by John Foss for T.J.Anderson of Swinithwaite Hall. A staircase rises between the outer and inner walls to a balcony and access to the upper room. There is a carving of a talbot over the door that suggests that it may have been used as a grandstand for watching the chase.
