The Corinthian portico of Barnard Castle railway station was rebuilt at Saltburn in 1867 as a memorial to Prince Albert.

The 180 feet high Saltburn Viaduct was probably designed by Thomas Elliot Harrison, the company engineer, for the North Eastern  Railway Company. The railway line opened in 1872 and served the Skinningrove limestone mines.
