Fort Henry

Exton Park is a large estate that has been the home of the Noel family for over four hundred years. Fort Henry was built as a pleasure-house for Henry Noel, the 6th Earl of Gainsborough, and was designed by William Legg of Stamford in the latest Gothick style between 1786 and 1789. The lake was used for re-enactments of naval battles.

Normanton Church

St Matthew's Church was the private chapel for the Normanton Estate and built in the classical style in 1826-29.

It was de-consecrated in 1970 when the lower half was filled with rubble and capped with concrete and an embankment built around it. It is on the shore of Rutland Water and open to the public as a museum.
