INNLEBY ARNCLIFFE, North Riding
Water Tower NZ 446 008
The water tower was designed by the Arts and Crafts architect Walter Brierley for Sir Hugh Bell to supply water to Arncliffe and Rounton. It has a crenelated parapet and four gargoyles at the eaves.
Sir Hugh was the mayor of Middlesbrough and chairman of the Tees Valley Water Board. The villages probably never needed the extra supply of water that was from a spring at 1,000 feet in the Cleveland Hills.
