FABULOUS FOLLIES
...and Landscape Curiosities

HOOTON PAGNELL, West Riding

Bilham Park Belvedere                                    SE 482 061

Picture
The belvedere was designed by John Rawsthrone for W. Hewett in about 1800. Rawsthrone was a pupil of Wyatt and the design was part of a London's Royal Academy exhibition.

Originally it was part of Bilham Park and is now the oldest building on the Brodsworth Estate.

Bilham Garden Seat                                         SE 485 067

Picture
Probably the little open summerhouse, now derelict in a field, was once part of the Bilham estate.

Bilham Plunge Pool                                         SE 484 068

Picture
What appears to be a plunge pool is in an overgrown designed landscape at Bilham.

There are steps down to the pool which is more than 5 feet deep.
