BEAMSLEY, West Riding

Beamsley Hospital                                              SE 082 531

Picture
Beamsley Hospital was founded in 1593 by Margaret   Russell, Countess of Cumberland. Lady Anne Clifford,   Countess of Pembroke, made it 'more profusely' and   gave it a round shape.

There are seven rooms around the central chapel for   the seven almswomen who lived there. Inside the   chapel below the conical-roofed lantern are wooden   pews and the Beamsley Bible.
